The Education Development Centre (EDC) is responsible for the organisation and coordination of in-service training for the Education Department. This incorporates:
the central inset budget and planning
liaison with schools and staff of the Education Service
course enrolment and administration
travel arrangements
reprographics service
An established and rigorous consultation process takes place annually which includes senior officers of the Education Department, education phase officers and schools. This results in wide range of areas being addressed within the central training budget, including:
- Adviser training days
- Adviser support visits
- First Aid
- Headship programmes
- Induction for Heads & Deputy Heads
- Literacy & Numeracy strategies
- Newly Qualified teacher programme
- Pastoral Leadership
- Performance Management
- Preparation for Senior Management
- Subject Leadership
- Special Needs
- Swimming
- Validation of schools

This is published on a termly basis and provides full details of all courses being offered for that current term. See resource list on right for this term's diary.
Staff of the EDC
Professional Development Manager, Colin Bibby
Overall responsibility for all the work of the EDC, incorporating strategic planning of the in-service training programme and budget.
Office Manager, Maggie Martel
Provides a comprehensive administrative support for all the work of the EDC, including:
- termly EDC diary compilation,
- EDC support agencies diary compilation,
- course enrolments,
- confirmations & evaluations,
- liaison with presenters and training room providers,
- invoice record keeping.
Travel Co-ordinator, Ali Loveridge
Deals with all matters relating to travel and accommodation for:
- off-island visits of Education Department staff,
- teachers and support services,
- incoming visits of UK-based presenters and visitors.
Education Resources Officer
Offers a service to schools and the Education Department for:
photocopying,
laminating,
binding.
