The Education Department recruits approximately 50 teachers each year from outside of the Island, generally from the United Kingdom, but also from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Europe. Information about living and working in Guernsey is included in the Guide for Candidates - Teachers and Lecturers Moving to Guernsey which can be downloaded by clicking on the resources to the right of this page. Primary and Secondary vacancies are advertised both locally and in the Times Educational Supplement. Teachers who do not hold Guernsey Residential Status are normally appointed on five-year contracts, because of local Housing Department restrictions on residency in the Island. Senior Appointments in primary, secondary and special schools (Headteachers and Deputy Headteachers) and Heads of Department in Secondary Schools are usually appointed on a permanent contract basis. A generous removal and relocation package, including a rent subsidy, is available to teachers moving from the UK. Interviews are generally held in Guernsey and candidates are expected to travel to Guernsey for their interview and the Education Department reimburses candidates with their interview expenses from the UK. There is a DCSF recognised induction programme for Newly Qualified Teachers. For more information please contact the Personnel Department on (01481) 710821. |
