E-Learning

One of the key priorities for the Education Department is to develop the use of ICT, alongside other strategies, to extend and improve learning.

We have made a significant commitment over the last few years to ensure that schools and services are well-resourced with a robust ICT infrastructure which supports e-learning initiatives.

All States schools are served by 100mb links, from a centrally managed service. Each teacher within the Bailiwick has been provided with a laptop and the ratio of pupils to computers is 1:5 in Primary and 1:3 in Secondary. Interactive Whiteboards have been installed in 80% of classrooms across the maintained schools in the Bailiwick.

With a robust and truly world class infrastructure in place, we have just launched our new Virtual Learning Environment which will provide every child with the opportunity to have a secure personalised learning area accessible from anywhere on the internet. In order to exploit this environment, leaders and teachers are being supported via a broad range of initiatives and training opportunities to ensure that ICT is appropriately embedded to support all aspects of teaching and learning.

A number of school level initiatives are under way led by education professionals aimed at actively moving the e-learning agenda forward at a 'local' level both within schools and to the wider community.

E-Safety

Schools are committed to ensuring that all pupils stay safe when on-line. All schools have signed up to an E-Safety Policy and the e-safety message is embedded in the ICT curriculum.

Schools work with other agencies include the Police and internet/mobile phone providers to help spread advice and guidance to children and their parents about keeping safe and using the internet in a responsible way.
