Who we are and what we do
The Schools Music Service was established in 1978 and now supports more than 700 young musicians offering both individual and group lessons.
Pupils are selected on their potential and parents can submit applications of behalf of their children in Year 1 for lessons on string instruments and in Year 4 for lessons on brass, woodwind and percussion instruments. There is no charge made for these lessons.
The Guernsey Music Centre operates after school during the week and on Saturdays and offers pupils the opportunity to take part in bands, orchestras, choirs and ensembles. The Music Centre is open to all pupils who play band and orchestral instruments, whether they learn with the Schools Music Service or privately.
Music Centre currently operates from the Grammar School and Princess Royal Centre for Performing Arts. Music Centre promotes the enjoyment and fulfilment that is gained from group music-making.
