What you need to know about moving to Guernsey

Not all posts in States-maintained can be covered by locally resident teachers and lecturers. Where we cannot appoint a suitable local candidate, we recruit from outside of the Island - generally from the United Kingdom, but also from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Europe.

Information about living and working in Guernsey is included in the Guide for Candidates - Teachers and Lecturers Moving to Guernsey which can be downloaded using the link at the bottom of this page.

We advertise Primary and Secondary vacancies both locally and in the Times Educational Supplement.  Teachers who do not hold Guernsey Residential Status are normally appointed on five-year contracts, because of local Housing Department restrictions on residency in the Island.

Senior Appointments in primary, secondary and special schools (Headteachers and Deputy Headteachers) and Heads of Department in secondary schools are usually appointed on a permanent contract basis.

We offer a generous removal and relocation package, including a rent subsidy, to teachers moving from the UK.  Interviews are generally held in Guernsey and candidates are expected to travel to Guernsey for their interview. We will reimburses candidates with their interview expenses from the UK.
