This includes:

  • Assessment, intervention programmes, ongoing monitoring and reporting
  • Providing advice on strategies which may be implemented by staff within the schools
  • Consultation at any stage from School Action for the needs of pupils with SEBD
  • Provision of in-service training for school staff
  • Supporting schools in the development of whole school or whole class policies on issues relating to behaviour management
  • Time-limited in-class support from a Teaching Assistant (subject to availability)
  • Supporting the reintegration of pupils and transition between schools
  • Work with groups of young people to address SEBD needs

Who does the SEBD Service work with?

The Service works with children and young people where:

  • Despite interventions and strategies being implemented by the school, the pupil continues to have difficulties adjusting to mainstream school due to social, emotional or behavioural difficulties
  • The pupil has been excluded or is at risk of exclusion
  • The pupil is at risk of developing mental health difficulties which are impacting on his/her ability to access full-time mainstream education
  • Is experiencing persistent attendance difficulties as a result of social, emotional and behavioural difficulties

What you can do

If you think your child has social, emotional or behaviour difficulties:

Talk to the Class Teacher or Form Tutor or Head of Year

With your consent they may discuss the situation further with the relevant people e.g.:

  • The School Nurse
  • The school SENCO or Behaviour Coordinator ( BECO)

The school may then decide to contact the School Liaison Team

Referral process:

  • A decision being made at a School Review meeting that a referral would be appropriate
  • A decision made at the Professionals meeting following a Category 2 or 3 exclusion
  • Referral Form completed by the School and signed by parents/carers
