The College of Further Education’s Performing Arts Centre has now been commissioned and is ready to open its doors to the public with an exciting two-week festival of events. The entertainment starts on Friday 20th April with a special reception and performance of The Black Remote, the island’s entry into the National Theatre ‘Shell Connections’ programme for young and aspiring acting companies. A similar reception and performance is being held on Saturday 21st April; both events are being sponsored by Insurance Corporation of the Channel Islands and although largely to an invited audience, there will be limited tickets available from the box office. Over the following two weeks, until the closing night on Saturday 5th May, the Performing Arts Centre will host performances by the Island Churches Guernsey Festival Chorus, the Guernsey Academy of Theatrical Education, the Guernsey Youth Theatre and Schools Music Service. Visiting performers include the Jersey Arts Centre’s production of Gerald Durrell’s My Family and Other Animals, Larondina Dance Company, and Zecura Ura’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Tempest. The College’s Hair and Beauty department are hosting their popular Hair and Make Up Show in the main auditorium and award-winning CineGuernsey close the festival with a showing of the Oscar winning Pan’s Labyrinth on Saturday 5th May. Throughout the festival a number of groups are holding open rehearsals or workshops including the Guernsey Choral and Orchestral Society, a musical theatre workshop led by Avril Earl, a Hip Hop Dance Workshop and an evening of poetry with local group Poetry in Motion.
