Deputy Tony Spruce was elected to join the Education Board by the States at its meeting in September 2009 to replace Deputy Allister Langlois who resigned from Education to take up the post of Chairman of the Public Sector Remuneration Committee.

The Education Board elected Deputy Spruce to the post of Deputy Minister at its meeting on 6th October.

Deputy Spruce was elected as a people’s deputy for the Vale in April 2008.

'In my manifesto I said that the Island needs Deputies with extensive commercial business and life experience. We need people that are clear thinkers, who are willing to lead and are committed to protecting not only a strong economy but also the less fortunate members of our society and the environment we all live in.

'I retired from business in April 2006 having spent my entire career working for Guernsey Gas in various technical and senior management positions. I spent the last 11 years of my career with its parent company, International Energy Group, where I held the position of Group Energy Director.

'It is essential that we continue to provide a first class education service which aims to maximise the skills of all. The College of Further Education should be supported in its vocational training efforts. This is essential if we are to have a well trained workforce supporting a broad based economy.

'The redevelopment of the Island's secondary schools must remain a high priority in the States Capital Expenditure Programme.'

Deputy Spruce is also a member of the Public Services Department and is the current Chairman of Floral Guernsey.
